Green fingers?
Busy busy busy weekend...we finally laid the lawn. (i know that sound like some kind of code for something but really it isn't!)
We now have grass in the garden and a second border and it looks beautiful! I am so pleased with it.
Ash did all the hard work, i merely stood by, advised and kept him hydrated with lemonade and cider, isn't he lucky to have such a helpful fiance? haha!
We will now be spending all our spare time watching gardeners world, and Carol Klein as well as Restoration Home and Grand Designs. I think we are becoming boring adults, but i am enjoying every minute of it!
Happy Monday x

Whitsta-bubble!
Last weekend we took a trip down to Whitstable. The weather was hot and sunny and the sky was blue. It was lovely to escape for a few hours and it felt weird going back to somewhere which at one point was like our second home. Back before we got our house Ash and i used to spend every spare day at Whitstable we would hop in the car with all our camping equipment or jump on the train for the day and escape. We even got engaged at Whitstable, but sadly since November we have been preoccupied with other things and hadn't been down to the shingle beaches of whitstable for nearly a year!
It felt good to go back.
We ate fish and chips on the beach, wandered the shops and followed the coast along to Seasalter passing the colorful beach huts.
There were tourists and children everywhere and we were sad to see some of the things we remembered well had changed. All in all though it is still full of that magical charm that drew us there in the beginning and we really should take a little more time out together like we used to.
Life is too short as they say!

Here's to being 27!
It was my birthday two days ago, i turned 27. Now i have had mixed feelings about turning 27 for sometime now, its quite far into my twenties, in fact its nearing the end which brings me into a little sweat just thinking about it! but hey i embraced it and smiled until three people concluded to tell me, without me even mentioning the fact i'm a little nervous of this age! that 27 was in fact the worst years of their lives!! Thanks for that.
So far it's been ok, but one cannot be too hasty in these things so i am taking each day slowly for now :)
To treat myself i purchased the above book. Wildwood, its a collaboration between husband and wife Carson Ellis and Colin Meloy, both fantastically talented, she being a renowned illustrator and he being the founding member of the band Decemberists i had a feeling it was going to be good, and its amazing! The story is great, it reminds me of an old style fairy tale but with pretty pictures to accompany it and a lot more depth.
I received lots of goodies for my birthday and was thoroughly spoilt, we will be going out for a Chinese tomorrow night as no one has to get up early on a sat so we can all have a drink. I am looking forward to it.
In other news ..... we have been harvesting regularly from the allotment, broad beans, lettuce, cabbage and potatoes, and the garden is coming along nicely. We are still waiting to get turf but its been so hot here that there hasn't been any for sale.
I will try and upload some photo's soon, but in the meantime, here's to being 27!
xx

The Isle that is Wight
On Sunday the 7th of July we packed up all our belongings, Ernie Frank and our selves and headed off with our tents and cars bulging to catch the ferry to the Isle of Wight.
It took us an amazing record breaking 6hours to get to Portsmouth (it usually takes 2) as there were diversions, and road works, we had no air con and at times we were at a standstill in a car in 30degree heat. Needless to say we tried to keep our spirits up listening to the Wimbledon final on the radio and playing eye spy. We eventually boarded the ferry a little frazzled found out Andy Murray won for England woop woop! and finally we were on holiday!
The two weeks were absolutely perfect. Every day was above 25 degrees with perfect blue skies and not a single cloud to be seen. We swam in the sea, went cockling, walked country lanes and just generally relaxed.
Ernie walked and sunbathed and even ventured in a little fold up box to the seaside, he is a well traveled tortoise by now and of course took it all in his stride.
The Isle of wight is absolutely beautiful in the summer and never fails to take my breath away. It's hard to describe. We ate and drank in many village pubs, and walked and walked until our legs were sore.
We returned on Sunday noses burnt and skin tanned to a boiling Kent and then back to work on Monday to an even hotter London!
I am glad to be back to our little house our garden and our Allotment but i miss the rolling fields the sparkling sea and the beauty of the Isle. Good Job we have booked another two weeks next year huh?
